Walk-ins with no reservation will be asked to wait until those with reservations are seated. \n \nSpeakers:\n Scott Peters\, San Diego Port Commissioner and former San Diego City Councilman\n \nTopic:\n San Diego's Greening Port\n \nAbstract:\n Mr. Peters will discuss how the port has been a steward for environmental quality\, as an organization and as a regulator\, and the Port's plans going forward for promoting both business development and environmental stewardship on and around the waterfront. \n \nSpeaker Information:\n Scott Peters is a member of the seven-member Board of Port Commissioners of the Unified Port of San Diego\, which establishes policies under which the Port's staff conducts its daily operations.  He is chair of its Environmental Advisory Committee and Accessibility Advisory Committee.  Scott also volunteers as chair of the Climate Initiative at the San Diego Foundation. \n From 2000 through 2008\, Scott represented the First Council District on the San Diego City Council\, serving as its first ever Council President from 2006 to 2008.  During his tenure\, he served as co-chair of the City's Clean Water Task Force\, and as a member the San Diego Association of Governments\, Metropolitan Transit Development Board\, League of California Cities\, and the San Dieguito River Park Joint Powers Authority.  From 2002 to 2005\, Scott was a member of the California Coastal Commission.  From 2001 to 2003\, Scott served on the California Commission on Tax Policy in the New Economy.  \n Before he was elected to the City Council\, Scott had a varied 16-year law practice\, as an associate in two international law firms\, as a supervisor in the Office of San Diego County Counsel\, and as a partner in his own firm.  Scott’s practice has included significant trials\, and has covered a wide range of environmental issues\, such as water contamination\, land development\, waste management and federal and state regulatory compliance.   \n Scott earned his undergraduate degree from Duke University and spent a year in Washington\, D.C.\, as an economist for the United States Environmental Protection Agency before attending New York University School of Law.  He and his wife Lynn live in La Jolla with their daughter and son.\n  \n
